In 2008, DASL forged an ongoing partnership with the Division of Education, Youth and Sport in Tobago, West Indies. DASL provides professional development on-site for principals, teacher leaders, and school supervisors in Tobago. These sessions occur roughly three times a year.

DASL staff members have helped build educational capacity in Tobago by:

  • Leading professional development on leadership and instructional best practices. Specific topics include data-informed decision making, supervision, scheduling, leading change, literacy instruction and differentiation.
  • Facilitating action planning and collaboration among Tobago school leaders. Schools are organized into “teams” by geographical region to promote networking.

  • Conducting school visits to monitor for implementation of practices and strategies, and teaching Tobago’s school leaders to perform their own walkthroughs.

“DASL is honored to work with these talented leaders in Tobago. They are as concerned about the future of their children as we are here, and we face many similar challenges. Our staff is sharing creative, research-based strategies and at the same time gathering new ideas for Delaware.” Dennis Loftus, DASL Director.
