Distributed Leadership
Distributed Leadership
What is the program’s goal?
Distributed leadership (DL) training provides instruction on implementing professional learning communities to focus on data and instruction and creating opportunities for leadership across the organization. This training module is based on five years of work to implement models of distributed leadership in over fifteen schools across the state of Delaware as part of The Wallace Foundation work to develop a cohesive leadership system for the state.
A recent study by the Delaware Education Research and Development Center (DERDC) revealed a significant statistical difference between DL and non-DL schools. The report states, “these responses reinforce the positive impact that the DL program is having on schools. DL schools did better on DL success indicators and on a majority of the overall school success indicators.” (Buttram & Pizzini 2009, p. 19)
How will the program goal be achieved?
Distributed leadership training will provide on-site training to address the following questions:
- How do we create collaboration time?
- How do we focus collaboration time on data and instruction?
- What is a Professional Learning Community and why should I care?
- How do I develop teacher leaders in the building?
Who should participate?
Distributed Leadership training includes a comprehensive effort including the principal, school leadership team, and teacher-led teams. DASL will customize the training schedule and activities to meet district needs.
