Delaware Academy for School Leadership
NATIONAL POLICY AND PRACTICE
Our national policy and practice work with national partners prepares and supports outstanding educators to successfully lead school districts and charter schools in rural, suburban, and urban school across the U.S.
“A leader’s job is not to do the work for others, it’s to help others figure out how to do it themselves, to get things done, and to succeed beyond what they thought possible.”
Dr. Jackie Wilson, DASL Director, provides support to the OHIO DOE as they plan strategies for including support for principals and principal supervisors in the state ESSA Plan. Working on behalf of the Wallace Foundation and in collaboration with the New York City Leadership Academy, the National Urban League, the Council for Chief State School Officers, The Council for Great City Schools and ED Council team members plan for a cohesive leadership system to support school leadership in Ohio’s lowest performing schools.
Wallace Foundation Principal Pipeline and Principal Supervisor Working Group includes Principal Supervisors and Principals from 14 urban school districts funded by the Wallace Foundation. The goal of the national convening is to provide opportunities for participates to develop tools and resources to support Principal Supervisors in their districts. DASL Director, Dr. Jackie Wilson, leads the work group in collaboration with Gary Bloom from the New Teacher Center, Santa Cruz.
DASL Director, Dr. Jackie Wilson, served on the committee to develop the Professional Standards for Education Leadership (PSEL 15). She serves on a panel with representatives from UCEA, Michelle Young, NAESP, Deb Tyler, and NASSP, Bev Hutton regarding the alignment of the standards to state policy. Delaware was the first state to adopt the standards and is currently aligning all professional development, pre-service preparation programs, and the Delaware Performance Appraisal System to the revised standards.
The Delaware Academy for School Leadership partners with the National Association for Secondary School Principals to provide a national School Leaders Academy. Participants work with school leaders on learning design thinking methodology as a process for leading change in their schools.
