Bio
Jackie Wilson has been advocating for state policy that supports standards, training and improved working conditions for school leaders for 20 years. She has over 40 years of experience in education including teaching, reading specialist, assistant principal and principal, Director of Professional Accountability at the Delaware Department of Education, and higher education. She was selected Delaware’s National Distinguished Elementary School Principal (2002) and a USDOE National Blue Ribbon School Principal (2001).
Dr. Wilson is an assistant professor in the School of Education where she teaches the School Leader Internship and Leadership Theory courses in the EDD School Leadership Program. She has also served as the director of the Delaware Academy for School Leadership (DASL) since 2010. In 2015-2017 she led the merger of three professional development centers and designed a comprehensive model of professional development that includes content and leadership coaching and professional learning. In her role as the Director of the Delaware Academy for School Leadership, Dr. Wilson leads a team of leadership specialists providing professional development and coaching support to education leaders. She continues to serve as a consultant and technical assistance partner with NASSP, NAESP, CCSSO, NGA, NCSL, AASA, NASBE, the New York Leadership Academy, American Institute for Research, and the Wallace Foundation. Dr. Wilson’s current work includes leading NASSP’s School Leaders Academy using design thinking for school improvement; facilitating a project group for the Wallace Foundation Principal Supervisor Initiative; and serving as a team facilitator North Carolina State University as they work on the redesign of their principal preparation program. Dr. Wilson was selected as the Executive Director of the National Policy Board for Educational Administration in April 2018. She will work with professional organizations, states and districts on the adoption and implementation of the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders and the National Standards for Leadership Preparation.
